Close to Death, 29 Year Old Bodybuilding Nurse Goes From Ventilator to Full Recovery

This bodybuilding nurse was close to death.

Many have said that the global health crisis is only affected older people. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Whether you are young or old, have an existing condition or not, this health crisis can certainly affect you.

A chief example of this notion is nurse practioner Quawn James.

An active and fit individual who is both an avid bodybuilder and flag football player, Quawn James ended up getting sick. The nurse practioner had to be hooked up to a ventilator despite being in great health. This supports the fact that the sickness could potentially be based on genetics rather than just compromised immune systems.

Quawn James took to Facebook to tell his story and warn others who may not think they can be affected.

Not many of you know but since March 6th, I have been sick. Before that I hadn’t even had a cough in 8 years. At first I thought it was just a common cold, just a runny nose, fatigue, body aches. So I did what’s common, took claritin, mucinex and a Zpak. I started to get a little better then March 14th I developed a 104 fever, shortness of breath, body aches, fatigue, night sweats and tremors, and coughing up sputum. So I went to the ER, there I was diagnosed with Coronavirus, viral pneumonia, cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart with 40% ejection fraction), and could no longer breath on my own, hence intubation as you are here. It took 4 days to get my fever down.

I won’t go into how bad my experience was at the hospital but I will tell you that there was a time where I didn’t think I was going to make it. As you can see here, I’m awake and intubated because everything that they used to try and sedate me dropped my heartrate very very low, so I could see and feel that tube in my throat which was painful. One medication they tried to sedate me caused hallucination. So being that I was awake I decided to take a picture so that I could share my story to everyone. Yall this disease is real. It took a completely healthy person like me to the ICU and I was almost transferred out because of how bad I was. So please take care of yourself, wash your hands, practice social distancing. Just because we are young doesn’t mean you will have no symptoms. Look at what it did to me.

NOW….I am out of the hospital, my heart went back to it’s normal size, no fever, been able to walk long distances without getting short of breath. I’m just still battling no appetite and not talking due to tube damage but it’s getting better. All in all, I’m happy to be alive and thankful for all the thoughts and prayers from friends and family. I am truly thankful for all of you. Now I had a minor setback but I’m going to have a major comeback!!
