Valter De Vargas Aita attempted to escape the building before being found on the stairwell.
Brazilian bodybuilder Valter de Vargas Aita has died after being stabbed by his girlfriend during an altercation that turned violent on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
The incident occurred in Chapeco, which is located in the state of Santa Barbara, Brazil. Aita was 41 years old. The motive for the attack is still being investigated by police.
The Civil Police of Chapeco shared different notes about the devastating alteration. Cops were called to the scene by neighbors after the fight broke out. Aita was reportedly stabbed in the neck, face, back, and abdomen by the 43-year-old women he lived with. He attempted to get away via the stairwell but was found dead when police arrived on scene.
The woman was also injured in the fight and taken to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. If she survives, police will arrest her for suspicion of murder. This woman had an outstanding warrant for armed robbery and another murder.
Valter Aita Was Champion Bodybuilder
Aita was able to turn a passion for fitness into a career in multiple ways.
He competed on stage for over a decade and was able to win multiple championships. Aita was a six-time state champion while also finishing as the runner-up in the 2024 World Fitness Federation Vice World Championships.
Outside of his own training, Aita worked with others as a trainer to help them reach the best version of themselves. The local gym where he worked shared that it would not open on Monday out of respect.
“Forever in our hearts.”
Unfortunately, this is not the first time where an argument turned violent in bodybuilding. In June, bodybuilder Zunilda Hoyos Mendez was found dead alongside her partner, Jarrod Gelling, at her rented home in Costa del Sol. Police arrived on scene and found the Colombia bodybuilding champion beaten to death with a hammer next to Gelling, who authorities believe died from “self-inflicted stab wounds.” Mendez, who had been missing since last week, had decided to divorce Gelling. Relatives described Gelling as “aggressive” and believed he would lash ot after learning about the decision.
The homicide division in the Civil Police opened an investigation into the murder. It remains ongoing and more details will be shared moving forward.
