Brock Lesnar Retires From MMA Pushing UFC to Book Cormier vs Miocic Rematch

Brock Lesnar has called it quits.

So it appears that we finally have the answer as to whether or not Brock Lesnar would be competing in the UFC once again. After essentially cutting a promo to battle UFC Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, the talk of the town in the MMA realm was “when will we see Brock Lesnar back in the Octagon?”

Well, the answer appears to be Neveruary.

According to Dana White, Brock Lesnar has informed he UFC president that he has officially retired from the sport of mixed martial arts.

The decision definitely comes as a shock to both the MMA and professional wrestling community. Everyone was sure that Brock Lesnar would be making a return to UFC action for almost a year now after he confronted Daniel Cormier following his championship victory over Stipe Miocic.

His recent drug testing conducted by USADA offered credence to the idea that Lesnar would once again do battle in the UFC ranks. The news from Dana White now puts all that speculation to bed as the former UFC champ has apparently called it quits.

With this new development, it appears that the UFC is now looking to book a rematch between Daniel Cormier and former Heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic.

While many believe it lacks the excitement and appeal of a Cormier-Lesnar match up, many MMA purests (including myself) believe that a rematch with Stipe Miocic is the better fight for Daniel Cormier’s legacy. Still, it is somewhat unfortunate that we’ll never get to see that Brock Lesnar versus Daniel Cormier match, especially after such hyped build up. Guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
