At 85 years old, the martial artist and actor has put together a workout to keep himself in great shape, active, and doing what he loves the most. Who is Chuck Norris?

Chuck Norris, born Carlos Ray Norris, is an actor and American martial artist who holds multiple black belts. He followed in his father’s, who was a World War II Army soldier, and joined the United States Air Force at 18 years old. This is where he began training in Tang Soo Do.

Norris began competing and won many martial arts championships at a young age. This was also an avenue into his next venture — acting. Bruce Lee called for Norris to play a role in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon. After this film, he began taking acting seriously and would appear in more over the next few years.

Norris would go onto become an international superstar after roles in many independently made films that turned into blockbusters. He also appeared in studio films Silent Rage, Vengeance, and Lone Wolf McQuade in the 1980s. Norris also has experience on television as he starred in the popular CBS show Walker, Texas Ranger.

Chuck Norris Training Routine

Chuck Norris’ training routine is broken down into two parts. He focuses on weight training, cardio, and core strength while also incorporating pool workouts and of course, martial arts. Norris has expressed the importance of a workout partner for extra motivation, sharing that his wife Gena has been his over the years.

Monday-Wednesday-Friday

  • 15-minute routine on Total Gym
  • 2-mile Fast Walk OR 30 minutes on elliptical for cardio
  • 10 minutes of crunches
  • Stretching

Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday

  • Martial Arts – Isolated kicks, hand & feet combos on heavy bag
  • Pool exercise – Kicks

Workout Notes

Make Sure to Hit Ideal Heart Rate

Chuck Norris expressed the important of hitting your ideal heart rate for 20-30 minutes four times a week. The ideal heart rate changes for each person. He shared a formula to find yours and it is as follows:

Subtract your age from 220, multiply that by 0.6, multiply the original number again by 0.9, and the range between the two is your target heart rate.

Stretching

It is important to prioritize stretching either before or after your workout. For Norris, he stretches following his workouts for one part but stretches before his martial arts movements. And if you sprinkle in cardio, taking care of your body is more than key for overall health and longevity. Stretching will promote muscle growth while aiding in recovery and proper rest for your body.

Importance of Pool Exercises

Norris takes his exercises to the pool to perform kicks, but why? He states that the pool beings benefits such as the combination of cardio with strength training. Water adds extra resistance and this makes the aerobics a challenge. Pool exercises will provide 12 times the resistance of air and this requires the muscles to work harder than usual.

Wrap Up

Chuck Norris is known for his roles on the big screen and on television. Before he becme known around the world, Norris was a fitness enthusiast who became a successful martial artist. No matter his age, Norris has kept fitness. priority and shares his wisdom with others as well. His workouts are well-thought-out and target his exact goals and interests in his physique. Norris serves as a prime example we should all follow. Get ready to push yourself to the limits like Norris and witness the impressive gains that await you!
