Conor McGregor Already Looking Past Mayweather, Next Opponent On Hit List In Sights

Conor McGregor wanting to fight Russian born Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia defines his character.

While quite a few people may not respect the UFC, boxing in general, Floyd Mayweather, or Conor McGregor for putting on their match in August, the truth is most fans won’t be able to stop themselves from tuning in. While it may be a bit insulting for the sport of boxing, the reality is that as much as a circus as this will be, it still sets up some intriguing story lines and will no doubt provide us with a legendary lead up to the bout itself. Now that news is breaking that Conor McGregor wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia, it’s becoming more and more apparent who the Irishman is as a combat athlete.

While people have been shouting the words “travesty” or “sham” or “circus”, Mayweather versus McGregor is still coming. It may end up all being an overpriced spectacle that will line the pockets of all involved at the upper echelon of the sport of both boxing and the UFC as an entity. But let’s not forget who brought all this about.

Conor McGregor isn’t your average fighter. Everything he aims to do is above average. From the lavish lifestyle including sporting custom made suits and driving around in ridiculously expensive cars, McGregor is the definition of excess. But he’s also the definition of trend setter. Not only was he able to accomplish feats in mixed martial arts that have never been done before (albeit taking a considerably easier route than many), but now he’s been able to convince this era’s number one pound for pound boxing great to have a match with him inside the squared circle. That’s just bonkers.

But now that we’ve seen what Conor McGregor has planned for his follow up feat, a bout with the Dagestan native Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia no less, the masses should understand just what kind of man “The Notorious” truly is.

Strength Wars Movie

Rather than simply aiming to be the best MMA fighter or the best boxer of all time, Conor McGregor wishes to transcend these labels and become something else entirely. McGregor wants to shatter perceptions, do things that are deemed impossible or foolhardy all in the hopes of fulfilling two distinct objectives. For one, he wishes to prove the naysayers wrong or at least open their minds to the possibility that anything can be accomplished through self belief and overwhelming confidence. Secondly, he wants to prove that he is the king of numbers. He wants to set records, break records, and dares others to try and attempt to challenge what he’s been able to build and establish for himself.

So while everyone may still be reeling from the news of Mayweather vs McGregor, we must all come to understand what all of this truly is. It’s just another opportunity for Conor McGregor to shut the naysayers mouths. It’s a chance for Floyd Mayweather to do the same with a record breaking 50-0 boxing record. It’s essentially a trailer for the next bout in the notorious career of Conor McGregor. Khabib Nurmagomedov is next on the Conor McGregor hit list and should the Russian fall in his home country, there’s no telling what will happen to Irishman’s ego. Suffice it to say, he’ll be laughing all the way to the bank while it all unfolds.
