The Zombie is set to make his return.
If you haven’t been paying attention to the South Korean happenings of the sport then you’ve likely forgotten about Chan Sung Jung, better known by Western fans as “The Korean Zombie.” Two years back he challenged Jose Aldo for the Featherweight title and was able to put up a decent fight until dislocating his shoulder in the fourth round. Since then Jung has been sidelined, but not by injury. No, The Korean Zombie had to fulfill his duties as a South Korean citizen and join the armed forces for two years. Sure, it was a bummer for many fans of Jung, but when duty calls you have to answer the call. Luckily for us, The Korean Zombie’s time in the military will soon be coming to a close and you all know what that means: Chan Sung Jung is returning to action. But the landscape has changed drastically since Jung last competed. A little known Irish fighter named Conor McGregor exploded onto the scene, demolished his first seven opponents in the UFC, including former champion Jose Aldo, and now sits comfortably atop the Featherweight division. The Korean Zombie will also have his hands full with competitors like Max Holloway, Frankie Edgar, and many other high level Featherweights as well, including his countryman Doo Ho Choi who is making his presence known at 145 lbs. So what should be the first plan of action for Chan Sung Jung when he returns to the octagon? Well, an appealing if not tough fight for his return would be against non other than Cub Swanson. It’ll be a difficult task, especially considering the two year lay off, but if The Korean Zombie wants to re-enter the hearts and minds of the fans then he’ll need a big fight, one filled with excitement and opportunity. Until we receive notice of the official return date of The Korean Zombie take a gander at this highlight video and rediscover what made Chan Sung Jung a household name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sJ0k98lVVQ Are you excited for the return of Chan Sung Jung?
