Dennis James had some interesting thoughts to share on how the competition is shaping up just two weeks out from the Olympia 2019.
Dennis James shared his thoughts about how things are coming together leading up to the Olympia 2019 on YouTube yesterday. Obviously, in light of everything that’s been happening lately — including reigning champion Shawn Rhoden being indefinitely suspended from competing — there’s a lot on everyone’s minds about who’s going to pull through this year and what the competition will look like.
With Shawn Rhoden banned from competing and Phil Heath sitting out this year, the field is wider now than it’s ever been for underdogs to grab a number one title. While Dennis James admitted that it’s “just not the best of the best [this year]” he also added that this opportunity will motivate bodybuilders like Roelly Winklaar, William Bonac, and Brandon Curry to try and be in the best shape of their lives since they now have a shot at the top spot.
Dennis James had this much to say about the entire situation with Olympia 2019:
“Let me put it this way, the Olympia used to be the best of the best. You qualified for the superbowl, that means the best competitors in the world. Athletes from around the world will meet that weekend to decide who is the number one bodybuilder in the world. And at this point, it’s just not the best of the best on stage anymore.
I’m talking this year, because you know we still consider Shawn Rhoden the best, the reigning Mr. Olympia. Then Phil Heath number two, and we don’t have Kai Greene. So the best, well the most talked about bodybuilders on the planet are not in the show.”
With the Olympia happening this year on the 12th, there’s not much time left for these guys to make huge improvements. Only time will tell who can get into fighting shape fast enough to seize the top spot.
