Dr. Testosterone details the science behind why insulin causes distended stomaches – also known as bubble guts.

For the past decade or so, there has been a strong criticism against many pro bodybuilders for the appearance of their stomaches. Specifically, there seems to be an increase in distended stomaches, often called bubble guts, on the pro stage. These bubble guts go against the aesthetic and conditioning required of a successful bodybuilder. So why do we keep seeing them so often in this modern era of competitors? Many have pointed to the possible use of insulin as the cause. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Dr. Testosterone explains the science behind why insulin can case bubble guts in bodybuilding.

While there have been some athletes, experts, and gugus that disagree, many people in the bodybuilding world believe that insulin is the main culprit for bubble guts in pro bodybuilding. It was a drug introduced relatively late in the history of the sport and while it’s not talked about openly – it’s often believed that the use of this drug is more prevalent today than in previous generations.

That’s why when we spoke with Dr. Testosterone, we wanted to get his thoughts on this controversial drug. Does it really cause bubble guts? And is it too dangerous to be used as often as it purportedly is now? Like many things, it’s hardly a black and white answer. But Dr. Testosterone does give some insight as to how insulin causes bubble guts for bodybuilders.

Dr. Testosterone explains that insulin stores fat when injected into the body. This usually would be unnoticeable in the big picture, but if it’s abused it could lead to fat developing specifically in the abdomen area. This is especially true if insulin is used with the wrong kind of foods.

Of course, the tactic bodybuilders use with insulin is during the bulking phase so they can put on as much weight and muscle as possible. This would likely fall under abuse by normal standards. This could explain why we are seeing more bubble guts than previous eras of the sport.

Dr. Testosterone also talks further about the abuse of insulin, explaining how it can be extremely dangerous if used incorrectly. It can lead to inducing a coma or even death. While there is a lot of talk about the dangers of PEDs in general. Dr. Testosterone clarifies that there is a difference between the dangers of steroids vs insulin. Dr. T explains that insulin is similar to diuretics. If used incorrectly it can lead to immediate critical harm. Steroids on the other hand, causes health issues and damage in the long term.
