Taming The Beast promises to be an evocative look into the life and career of World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall
The official trailer has been released for Taming The Beast, a new feature-length documentary chronicling the life, career, and record-breaking accomplishments of Strongman legend and 2017 World’s Strongest Man champion Eddie Hall. Known globally as “The Beast,” Eddie Hall’s story goes far beyond his historic 500kg deadlift and World’s Strongest Man (WSM) title. Taming The Beast delivers an unfiltered look at Hall’s journey, blending elite-level strength sports with deeply personal struggles involving depression, identity, and mental health.
Directed by Chris Michael Fretwell and Josias Tschanz, Taming The Beast is produced by Jeridoo Productions, Counting Ants Productions, and Generation Iron.
In this post, we provide an exclusive first look at the official movie trailer above.
A look at the life and beating heart behind The Beast that is Eddie Hall
Following his World’s Strongest Man victory in 2017, Eddie Hall returned home to Stoke-on-Trent expecting fulfillment, only to be met with a crushing sense of emptiness. An emptiness that recalls a dark chapter from his teenage years, when Eddie battled severe mental health challenges, and explores how those unresolved struggles resurfaced at the peak of his success.
For the first time ever, Taming The Beast explores the emotional depths behind the world famous strongman – and provides an uncompromising look into the recent years of Eddie Hall’s life. Including a rollercoaster of challenges and choices that may very well change the path his future takes.
“Taming The Beast is a character study about a man who won the greatest accolade of his career which ultimately exposed some mental health problems he had previously buried as a teen. In the end, it’s about a man who learns he has to live with his demons in order to move forward.”
Chris M. Fretwell (Director, TAMING THE BEAST)
In an effort to avoid falling back into destructive patterns, Eddie Hall resets his goals. Inspired by his childhood hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, he sets his sights on Hollywood and a potential acting career. But the transition from strongman icon to entertainer proves anything but easy. Seeking guidance, Eddie travels to the Arnold Classic in Ohio to speak directly with Arnold, a moment that reignites his sense of purpose.
Just as momentum begins to build, the global pandemic brings the world to a standstill. During lockdown, Eddie turns to social media as a lifeline, connecting directly with fans and revealing a more vulnerable, human side that many had never seen before.

Fighting for his life
The documentary also dives into Hall’s highly publicized rivalry with Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, a conflict that began in Botswana in 2017 and escalated into one of the most talked-about crossover boxing matches in sports history. As Eddie prepares for the bout in Dubai, his training is derailed by a devastating bicep injury that threatens his future. Despite launching a new business venture alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and pushing forward, Hall ultimately suffers defeat in the ring.
Rather than defining him, the loss becomes a turning point. Taming The Beast shows Eddie Hall emerging with a renewed mission, embracing his role as a mental health advocate and using his platform to encourage others to confront their own struggles. His legacy, as portrayed in the film, extends well beyond strength records and titles, positioning him as a powerful voice for mental health awareness, resilience, and self-acceptance.
