Flex Wheeler Impresses With Leg Press Training Using Prosthetic Leg

Flex Wheeler put some self through leg day with his prosthetic leg.

Bodybuilding legend Flex Wheeler recently put himself through a leg day routine while training with his prosthetic leg. After having to amputate his right leg, Flex has since been coping with the lost limb and is still maintaining his usual training regimen.

Injuries can be a terrible setback for an athlete. It slows you down and it may take several days two weeks to even months to recover. But while injuries may be an irritation, the minor ones in particular simply take time and rest to heal. But what if an individual is facing something more long-term? What if they face a circumstance where their injury is permanent? If anything, it puts things into perspective and allows those who are suffering, recoverable injuries to count their blessings. For bodybuilding legend Flex Wheeler his particular circumstance isn’t one he can recover from.

Handling a Permanent Setback

While it may not have been an injury that caused Flex Wheeler to amputate his right leg, he is still faced with the reality that his limb is gone forever. No doubt this was a very difficult turn off events for Wheeler to work through. Nevertheless, the bodybuilding legend is still proving that with the proper mindset anything is possible.

Rather than lament about the loss of his right leg, Flex Wheeler is choosing to embrace his current situation and learn to move forward. How is Wheeler moving forward? By doing what he has always done; make no excuses and get into the gym.

During a recent leg day training session, Flex Wheeler was not only able to train his left side, but also his amputated leg as well. Utilizing the leg press machine, Wheeler was able to push weight using his prosthetic right leg. A recent post to his Instagram account showed Flex Wheeler, pushing himself through leg day training while also offering a motivational message to his followers.

Life will put roadblocks in your way. It’ll be up to you to keep moving forward. But, you don’t need to walk this path alone!

Legendary Motivation

His motivational speech was as follows:

“I want to talk to you a little bit about life’s setbacks and hurdles,” he said. “We’re all given them. As I said many times before, life is going to deal you lemons. It’s your choice to be sour or make lemonade out of it and serve it sweet. In my 57 years, I’ve been through a lot, to say the least. I was homeless, raised on welfare, beaten, molested from the age of 5 to 13, got focal glomerulosclerosis and recently of course, just lost my leg. But I won’t and I don’t allow it to prison me. I will never allow my body to prison me. I will continuously push back and try to set new goals and boundaries for myself.

I suggest you do the same… Believe in yourself, especially when others don’t. Don’t accept no, don’t accept failure, even of your own self, continuously push back and set goals for yourself. Live life to its fullest.”

Mindset is Everything

Flex Wheeler is no doubt a massive inspiration for anyone facing physical hardships that would threaten to prevent them from exercising. Rather than make any excuses for himself Wheeler is choosing to have a positive mindset and make the most of his situation. Having the proper mindset means everything when it comes to overcoming the odds and putting them squarely in your favor.
