The bodybuilding world suffered a senseless loss this weekend when IFBB-certified pro Jose Geovanny Garcia Rodriguez was murdered at his place of work.

Jose Geovanny Garcia Rodriguez was murdered just a few days ago while at his job. Other details have not been provided, though video footage of his family and a moving eulogy (given in Spanish) has been made available to the public. He was 42 years old.

Garcia Rodriguez, a Honduran champion, had many impressive accomplishments in the world of strength sports and fitness. He was an Olympic Central American champion, a Silver Medalist at the 2017 Central American Games in Managua, and represented his native country of Honduras at the 2019 PanAmerican Games in Lima.

No details about his death have been released at this time, but hopefully the proper authorities in Honduras will see that justice is done for him and his family. The murder is made especially tragic by the fact that Garcia Rodriguez was working during the coronavirus pandemic, no doubt to support his family during a time of serious economic hardship around the world. This is a loss felt deeply by the global bodybuilding community and a painful reminder that tomorrow is never promised. Generation Iron sends their thoughts and prayers to the family of Garcia Rodriguez and hopes that those responsible for this heinous crime will be held accountable for their actions.
