Looking at bodybuilding today it can be hard to believe that the practice of growing muscle has been an endeavor that’s been around for little over 100 years. Back in the day it was something that was practiced by a few individuals who did it simply because they had a passion for it. These days bodybuilding has become a lucrative part of the fitness industry, one that brings in millions of dollars in revenue per year. But somewhere between the days of Eugene Sandow and the current landscape of the sport, there was a period of time when bodybuilding was truly at it’s best: The Golden Era.

A time period from the 1960s to the late 1980s, bodybuilding was truly at its best. Posing was given more weight than muscle mass and competitors tried to display their physiques as works of art rather than giant slabs of muscle. The whole point of bodybuilding back in the Golden Era was to demonstrate how a normal man can make themselves look like the Greek sculptures of old. It’s a notion that seems to have evaporated in the current landscape and it’s what made the classic bodybuilders so iconic.

At the heart of this time in bodybuilding was the iconic Gold’s Gym, a training facility that helped to produce some of the greatest bodybuilding champions of all time, including the great Arnold Schwarzenegger. As much as the classic bodybuilders made the Golden Era memorable, Gold’s Gym was a major part in shaping the period. To this day the establishment still stands and is home to many hard working bodybuilders looking to build their most impressive forms.

Ric Drasin recently made a video that gives viewers an inside look into Gold’s Gym during the iconic Golden Era. Take a trip down memory lane in this throwback video.
