Gregg Valentino details his cancer diagnosis and what the future holds.

In a shock to the bodybuilding community, on February 25, Gregg Valentino announced that he had been diagnosed with a form of throat cancer. But knowing Gregg, there was certainly quite a detailed an interesting story of the reveal. He’s a man who is certainly known for his stories. That’s why when we sat down with Gregg for a new interview in NYC, we asked him to talk in more detail about what led up to the diagnosis and what the future holds. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Gregg Valentino opens up about his throat cancer and the upcoming steps towards recovery.

Cancer is a very scary word – but if you were to look at Gregg Valentino, you’d see someone who is continuing his days with confidence and the same attitude his fans have grown to love. That’s because Gregg is trying to focus on the positives and enjoy the present while he still feels healthy. At the moment, the cancer might be something that he defeats quickly or it might become a longer battle. For now he’s focusing on staying positive and in the moment.

When we sat down with Gregg, he detailed the events that led up to his cancer diagnosis. He described a swollen lump in his throat that was initially diagnosed by his doctor. Luckily after getting a second opinion, he was able to quickly determine that the growth could be something more serious. After having it surgically removed, tests were done that revealed the truth – the growth was cancerous. And worse, there were still some areas in his throat that contained cancerous cells.

In just one week, he will be back to the hospital for a second surgery. That surgery is meant to completely remove the cancer. But as with all cancer diagnosis – it’s hard to be certain if it’s removed completely right away. So for now he simply has to wait and see what the future holds.

Gregg goes on to reveal that he has never smoked a cigarette or marijuana in his life. He’s never even drank alcohol. That’s why the diagnosis came as such a shock to him. Furthermore, he was always focused on strength training so that his body can be the stronger than most. So it is a painful situation to know that his body has “betrayed” him – despite his desire to always ensure it’s as strong as possible.

For now, Gregg awaits a surgery that will take place on March 17, 2020. After spending some time in recovery from the surgery – he will soon know what the next steps of his life will look like. We’ll be sure to update on Gregg’s situation as it develops.
