An argument between two men in a gym ended in a stabbing and arrest.
A Brazilian man was fatally stabbed while in the gym on Monday following an altercation about an ex-girlfriend.
David Schmidt Prado was approached in the parking lot of a gym in Londrina, northern Parana, on Monday by 30-year-old Lucas Wancler Ferreira dos Santos. The altercation was reportedly sparked because of Prado’s relationship with Santos’ ex-girlfriend.
The argument began in the gym parking lot but the 37-year-old Prado rushed back into the gym after being stabbed by the suspect. Santos followed Prado back into the gym and stabbed him again before an off-duty military officer intervened and drew his weapon. The officer paused his workout to detain Santos until authorities arrived on scene.
Prado died at the gym from severe blood loss caused by stab wounds. His body was then sent for examination at the Legal Medicine Institute. Santos was arrested and immediately charged with homicide.
The video was captured by security cameras inside the facility.
Gym Violence Continues Around The World
Unfortunately, the gym is not an uncommon place for violence between both attendants and workers.
In December, Police were called to a Miami Planet Fitness after a woman was seen in the gym without clothes, reported by NBC News. The woman, identified as 35-year-old Kiara Bryant, faces two misdemeanors following the incident, which occurred on Dec. 12. When police arrived, Bryant was yelling in the parking lot, attempting to “fight everyone,” according to authorities on site.
The arrest report states that the Planet Fitness employee asked Bryant to lower her voice in the locker room. The man pushed her away multiple times in an attempt to protect himself, threatening to call the police. Bryant would continue to follow the employee around the gym before hopping over the front desk to get to him, eventually punching him in the face multiple times.
Bryant was charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct in an establishment. She has since been released on a $150 bond. The Planet Fitness worker chose not to speak or be photographed following the incident, according to his attorney, Alecsander Kohn. The man suffered a broken nose after Bryant connected with a closed fist after multiple attempts.
Planet Fitness has cooperated with law enforcement since this attack occurred. Bryant’s membership was cancelled and the gym continues to prioritize the safety of members. A spokesman for the gym shared a statement discussing steps forward.
