Hafthor Bjornsson escaped injury after a failed lift attempt during a training session.

Hafthor Bjornsson is one of the all-time great Strongmen but even the best of the best have accidents happen in the gym. Bjornsson recently had one happen during a training session for the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic.

Bjornsson was preparing for the Arnold with a massive overhead press. By the looks of the video, it seems as though Bjornsson racked up around 230kg (507lbs) for this specific lift. He did not disclose how much he was attempting to lift. While lifting the weight off the rack, it collapsed on Thor and he was narrowly able to escape before it landed on his shoulders and back.

Hafthor Bjornsson looks like he was training for the Big Jerk for Max event, which will take place on the second day of the event on March 1. This is an event where competitors will be tasked with lifting as much weight as possible overhead using a bar.

Hafthor Bjornsson Shares Message Following Accident

The video, which was shared early this week, gained plenty of comments from fans sharing best wishes to Hafthor after what looked like a nasty accident. Bjornsson took to Instagram on Tuesday night sharing an update.

“I’m thankfully fine! Thanks for all the messages.”

Hafthor Bjornsson is training for the competition as a whole while also accepting a deadlift challenge. The Icelandic strongman and former “World’s Strongest Man” winner, renowned for his unmatched feats of strength, will take on a new challenge during the event. Bjornsson will take on the 501kg elephant bar deadlift challenge for the chance to win $101,000.

Bjornsson currently holds the all-time deadlift world record at 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds), and has continued to train to reach these levels once again. Bjornsson’s recent feat of moving 430kg for a double proves that he is just getting started in the deadlift game.

In 2020, Bjornsson took a break from Strongman following his legendary 501kg lift. Bjornsson set his sights on boxing and went through an insane physique transformation on his way to reaching his goals. This included a victory over fellow Strongman Eddie Hall. It is clear that he has been working hard to overcome different setbacks, specifically a torn pec that forced him to miss time, to return to his best form.

Hafthor Bjornsson continues to share workouts featuring insane weight that is being used to prepare for his appearance in Columbus.
