How Long Does It Take To See Results From Working Out?

Is there a specific time frame where you will start seeing progress in the gym?

Whether you are a newcomer to the gym or a life-long weightlifter, you have goals that you are trying to achieve. It is important to have patience when asking the question, “when will I begin to see results?” Unfortunately, you will not see your physique transform overnight no matter what you do.

All fitness journeys are created equal. Some will reach their goals quicker than others but there is a timeframe established to know when to start looking for progress, weight loss, and even significant gains. Our team at Generation Iron is here to break it down.

How Soon Can You See Results?

The time needed to reach your goals obviously depends ultimately on what they are and the work that is being put in.

The popular answer on when new gym goers can see improved muscle tone is between 2-4 weeks. This will also come with improvements in cardiovascular health. There has been much research done that include genetics and muscle fiber composition when answering this question.

If you are an experienced lifter looking to make significant gains in the gym, this can take anywhere between 8-12 weeks. Once you have gotten comfortable in the gym and have worked out for a few weeks, you will notice that your strength and cardio fitness have improved.

How Long Does It Take To Lose Weight?

This is a vert broad question that also has many underlying conditions, such as diet plan and calorie intake. Weight gain occurs when you take in more calories than you use so to lose weight, you must control calorie intake and burn more than taken in.

According to Medline Plus, there are many factors that can impact weight gain:

  • The world around you
  • Families
  • Lack of sleep
  • Emotions
  • Medicines/Health conditions

In order to get at a healthy weight, it is important to find a diet plan that works for you while getting more physical activity in over the course of the day. It is recommended to get in 150 minutes of exercise each week to help aid in weight loss.

If all this is accomplished, the process of losing weight can be sped up significantly. On average, losing a significant amount of fat can take between 3-4 months.

Is There A Way To Speed Up This Process?

If you are already part of a gym and have found a diet plan that works, there might be other methods that can help you speed up the process of gaining muscle.

First, it is important to challenge yourself in the gym. This can be done by stepping up your level of intensity in the gym while also changing up your plan every 8-12 weeks to keep your body guessing. It is also important to recover. Do not feel the need to overtrain muscles and do not skip out on rest days.

Once you leave the gym, make sure to fuel your body. This is important pre- and post-workout. While you are eating fewer calories, make sure to know which foods are most important.

The fitness journey for each person will be different and unique in many ways. The answer to, how long will it take to see results, can be different depending on the person and their habits. With that being said, for each person, it is important to prioritize weightlifting and create a healthy and clean diet plan to cut down on calorie intake. If you decide to make these changes, do not rush and remain patient. Progress will come and it will be fulfilling when it does!
