IRON CINEMA: MELLE MEL’S TAKE ON BODYBUILDING’S CURRENT STATE

We don’t want to see ourselves on stage. We want to see the freaks.

Every week, Iron Cinema will connect you with Generation Iron director Vlad Yudin. Giving you unprecedented inside access to the creative process behind his the Generation Iron Fitness Network. Get a first hand look at the entire journey of taking Vlad’s creative ideas to the big screen – from stories on set of films like Generation Iron and CT Fletcher all the way to exclusive behind-the-scene looks at our newest GI news and films. This week Vlad lands an exclusive interview with hip hop pioneer Melle Mel – best known as the main songwriter for Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. He also happens to be massively jacked and a HUGE bodybuilding fan. He has a few ideas on the current state of bodybuilding and how the industry can move past it’s own trappings.

There’s been a lot of talk about the current state of bodybuilding lately. Between the IFBB/NPC creating a new division, Lee Thompson starting his own new league, and Arnold Schwarzenegger harshly criticizing today’s current judges and athletes… I believe we are at a very exciting time and on the cusp of a brand new era for the industry.

But I also think that perspective is important. You’ve probably seen videos many bodybuilders, current and past, give their insight into how bodybuilding should move forward. But I’m also interested in a fresh perspective. That’s why I got together with rap pioneer Melle Mel – who is not only jacked in his own right but has been an avid bodybuilding fan for years. He has some truly unique views on how bodybuilding can break free from it’s current state and rise up in the ranks of sports popularity. You can watch our whole interview below:
