John Arne Riise took on this challenge after a 16-week weight loss transformation.
Former soccer player John Arne Riise has continued a life of fitness, even in retirement. The Liverpool legend took on a challenge to raise awareness and money for mental healthy by running on a treadmill for 24 hours. In the end, Riise made it 172km (106.8 miles).
Riise spent seven years in Liverpool, making 348 appearances and was part of the 2005 Champions League champ. During the 2005 Football League Cup Final, Riise scored the fastest goal in fixture history, just 45 seconds into the game. He retired in 2017, four years after he ended his international career with 16 goals.
Following his retirement, Riise made multiple reality TV appearances. This includes 16 Weeks of Hell, which is a show where celebrities are put through an insane boot camp over the course of four months. During the show, Riise lost a significant amount of weight and completely changed his mindset when it comes to cardio.
John Arne Riise Completes Insane 24-Hour Run
John Arne Riise shared the moment the run ended and it was exactly the reaction you could have expected after 24 hours on a treadmill.
“This is the moment I finished 24 hours on the treadmill yesterday 😅Proud of my achievement and especially where I was physically and mentally 4 months ago 🔥 did this for a Great cause, Mental health! I ended up with 172km, In a run I didn’t think I could do ❤️ Thanks for all the support and everyone that participated and ran during this very hard 24 hours ❤️”
Arne Riise is not the first person to complete a run such as this. The current world record is held by Bjorn Tore Kronen Taranger of Norway, who completed 264.52km (164.52 miles) in 24 hours. Arne Riise had his recovery all planned out and once again, it is something that the average person can understand.
“I’m going home, shower, put my feet on the couch, order the biggest kebab ever with hot sauce, Pepsi Max, candy, and then I’m not going to move for two days.”
This seems like the kid of recovery that fits a run that went over 100 miles. It is also the perfect reward for Arne Riise after raising money for a great cause such as mental health.
In December, John Arne Riise shared a post showing off his hard work after his physique transformation following the 16-week journey. He shared that he had other journeys on the list and a run such as this is certainly a big one checked off the list.
“Picture on the left is 15 weeks ago… The other one is few days ago. My journey on 16 weeks of hell has really paid off and I’m extremely happy with the effort I have put in to make my daily life better 🥰🔥 One week left before the tv show is done but my new lifestyle will continue ❤️ I have loads of missions ahead 🔥”
