Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Packs On Alarming Muscle

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is looking absolutely massive.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (50-3-1, 32 KOs) has suddenly packed on an enormous amount of muscle to his upper body. In his last fight against Mexican star Canelo Alvarez, Chavez Jr ended up on the wrong end of a prolonged beating. After a prostitution debacle that same night, Chavez Jr disappeared from the world for a while. Now he’s back with a noticeable difference in his physique.

Many boxing fans are reminded of the transformation of Canelo Alvarez, who himself with the way he’s packed on a lot of muscle between his bout with Chavez Jr and his spectacular draw with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in late 2017.

Both men have really made some shocking muscle gains in the past couple of years. After Canelo’s controversial draw with GGG, many fans suspected that he had been taking anabolics to prepare for the fight.

It is difficult to put on muscle size while preparing for a heavily aerobic sport like boxing yet Canelo managed to gain the weight impressively. He also tired noticably in the fight, which increased suspicions. Many boxing commentators like Paulie Malinaggi have spoken out against steroid use in the sport, mentioning that it is basically impossible for a fighter to put on enough lean weight to climb weight classes unless he is receiving hormone treatment. Paulie specifically accused Manny Pacquiao of cheating in this way.

The big problem for Chavez Jr now is finding his next weight class. After the Canelo fight at a catchweight of 164.5, Chavez Jr complained afterwards that he was drained from the weight cut. But it looks like he’s done much more than simple rehydration.

The 31-year-old will need some help to return to his usual weight class of 175 with this bulky physique.

Online he posted, “Next fight 175 or 168 less wear; better performance.”
