NFL Dolphins Trade Kenyan Drake

The Miami Herald reported the Dolphins will be trading Kenyan Drake earlier this afternoon.

Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake will not be returning to the team in the 2020 season. The news was confirmed after Drake’s conspicuous absence from Monday night’s game against the Steelers despite being in perfectly good athletic condition. The decision immediately sparked rumors that he was going to be traded in the next round of the draft. These rumors were confirmed to be true by the Miami Herald earlier today.

With only 4 days left until the trade deadline, many teams are being forced to make some hard decisions. Although in the case of Drake and the Dolphins it appears to be an amicable split; Drake failed to hit expected goals during his 2019 season and it’s likely the Dolphins wanted to capitalize on that for future trades.

Drake was initially drafted by the Dolphins for the 2016 season. Before that, he played college football for the University of Alabama. Trading Drake seems to be a strategic move on the part of the Dolphins, who are likely to secure an earlier draft round pick in the 2020 season. As a younger member of the NFL, it’s also likely Drake has an open road ahead of him, and could be picked up by another team as a candidate with a lot of potential. A team switch means a chance at a fresh start and a different headspace — factors that could potentially see a much better season for both Kenyan Drake and the Miami Dolphins.
