Kevin Levrone: “I Believe Mike O’Hearn Is Natural”

Kevin Levrone discusses finding happiness in quarantine and breaks down why he believes Mike O’Hearn is all natural despite public disbelief.

To many in the bodybuilding world, Kevin Levrone is one of the greatest competitors in the history of the sport. Levrone competed alongside a generation of bodybuilders with incredible physiques. Each pushing each other to greater conditioning and size. Some consider it the second coming of the Golden Era. Levrone knows bodybuilding inside and out – which is why his latest statement about Mike O’Hearn in our interview was so shocking. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Kevin Levrone explains in detail why he believes Mike O’Hearn is natural.

It’s been a while since we’ve caught up with Kevin Levrone. After working together to chronicle his comeback to competitive bodybuilding in Born To Overcome, Levrone has since retired and focused on his business endeavors.

Of course, things changed significantly after the pandemic put the word into lockdown and crisis. While Kevin doesn’t compete anymore, he still likes to keep in shape. With gyms closed that suddenly became harder.

But Kevin seems to have found a way to make peace. He’s been training at home or outside. But even beyond training, the ability to slow down, go out into nature, and just be in the moment has helped Kevin find peace during these troubling times.

“There’s something about nature and being grounded to the roots of things. So I enjoy it,” Kevin Levrone admits during our conversation.

“I feel so much better. You’re out there in your freedom. You’re able to think and your mind is free. And when you’re in that free space you can just create. And then you realize when you come back home and you pick up the cell phone and you get behind your desk and everything. It’s like wow, okay, this is that fake world.”

Meanwhile, we have been busy working on Generation Iron: Natty 4 Life – which is hitting digital in just two weeks on July 31. The film covers pro natural bodybuilding leagues and features Mike O’Hearn. As many already know, Mike O’Hearn is possibly the most impressive natural bodybuilder of all time. That is, if you believe he’s all natural. His physique is so massive and conditioned many believe it’s impossible for him to be natural. O’Hearn has stood by his words for nearly three decades.

Which brings us back to Kevin Levrone. He’s been keeping up with Generation Iron’s output and admits to recently watching our recent exclusive clip from Generation Iron 4. The clip focuses on Mike O’Hearn and showcases the debate of whether he is natty or not. As it turns out, Levrone has an opinion on this matter as well. He thinks that Mike O’Hearn is all natural.

“Mike O’Hearn has a work ethic that I don’t even have,” Kevin Levrone states in our interview.

“Mike has always been in shape his whole entire life… To do that you have to be consistant, training, diet, he’s always in the gym. I don’t think Michaels training regiment and focus has changed, and his commitment, as far as persuing his workouts and his training. Mike has always been like that.”

Kevin Levrone than contrasts that with pro bodybuilders in untested leagues:

“When people do use, you can tell when they are using. You can tell when they’re on. You can tell when they’re not on. You know, their DNA or their genetics just fluctuate. Look at all of us. Look at every Mr. Olympia…everybody who competed at that level, they’re fluctuating. But you look at these natural athletes. They’re so consistent it’s mind blowing. And I believe that Mike O’Hearn is natural.”

Kevin Levrone puts the period on his whole thought with that final sentence. Not only does Levrone think that Mike O’Hearn is honest about his natural claims. He also explains in detail exactly how such an achievement is possible.

Will it change anyone’s minds? Probably not. But it’s refreshing to see someone explain it in such detail. Often times natty or not arguments fall into black and white. Perhaps there are some exceptions to the unwritten rules we have in the bodybuilding community. Perhaps Mike O’Hearn is one of those exceptions.

You can watch Kevin Levrone’s full comments on natural bodybuilding and Mike O’Hearn in our latest GI Exclusive interview segment above.
