Conor McGregor’s team is already chomping at the bit to turn his fight with Dustin Poirier into a trilogy.
Dustin Poirier rocked the UFC world last night when he delivered the first KO of Conor McGregor’s career. But it looks like McGregor’s still cruising for a bruising: his team announced on Twitter today that they had already reached out to Dustin Poirier’s manager to arranged a rematch and possibly even tease things out into a trilogy of fights. The fight was a huge success for the UFC per reports that it pulled blockbuster numbers and was watched by a huge audience.

“He’s already harassing everybody to get the rematch. We would love the rematch. I don’t think Dustin is against that. If we could get the rematch before the summer, that’d be amazing. If it’s not to be, I guess I don’t really know. Maybe he drifts off into the boxing,” commented Dustin Poirier’s coach John Kavanagh on McGregor’s team’s suggestion.
McGregor himself weighed in on Twitter and was uncharacteristically polite and respectful after taking such a brutal beating. You can check out his comments below in full.
Thanks for the support everyone! Was not my night/morning in there but a great contest to improve on. I’m excited at the blockbuster trilogy I now have on my hands. Dustin is a hell of a competitor and I look forward to going again. God bless us all, happy Sunday ❤️

Clearly, McGregor is chomping at the bit for another chance to prove himself against Poirier, but it seems we’re past the tipping point with these two. Poirier has already more than proved himself and at this point would probably only consent to further matches for the money involved in a McGregor fight. His recent loss also shows that his star could be waning and his career has one foot out the door – after his loss to Khabib, McGregor had a similar reaction in terms of a desire for a rematch, but that didn’t lead to more glory for him in that instance, either. Only time will tell whether McGregor and Poirier will meet again in the ring, but here’s hoping it’s soon and it’s another great fight to watch.
