48 Year Old Michael LeSure Sets His Eyes On Olympia Stage

Never too late to pursue greatness.

In July of 2017, Michael LeSure competed at the National Physique Committee Teen Collegiate & Masters National Championships and seized first place in the over-40 category.

LeSure, age 48, grew up in a culture of traditional American sports like basketball, football and track. He parlayed his natural athleticism into a wide receiver spot for the Ball State University from which he graduated with a degree in finance. Once he entered the professional world, he hired a nutritionist to help compensate for his now sedentary lifestyle. Seeing his potential, the nutritionist suggested he try bodybuilding, and in 2016, Machael finally entered his first competition.

In order to compete at the highest level, LeSure set himself up with an expert lifting coach and posing coach, along with his nutritionist.

“I feel like my greatest attribute in this whole process is that I’m really coachable,” he told Current. “I feel like I have great people around me, and if they design what I can do, I’ll just attack it with as much fervor and 100 percent as I possibly can.”

LeSure’s nutritionist Austin Dossey, regularly measures many factors including the bodybuilder’s weight and body fat percentage when developing meal plans.

“Based on that, I just kind of tell him how many grams of carbohydrates, proteins and fats he needs to eat with the intent of putting on lean muscle and maintaining or losing body fat.”

LeSure said that at the Masters National Championships, judges look for a tapered back, small waist, and good vascularity, and his diet helped him achieve all three.

“He responded really well,” Dossey added. “Not everybody responds that well. He was diligent and did his homework and saw pretty crazy results.”

LeSure said, “It was a relief and really rewarding because you had done so much to get to where you were, and I felt good for everybody involved.”

Michael LeSure will make his pro debut in Tampa, Fla. and compete in three other events to qualify for Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend. He says the Olympia is next big goal.
