Micronesian Man Builds Dream Gym For His Community

Young men are always looking for physical outlets, and for young men in island communities like Micronesia the options can be limited.

But on Saturday The Latte opened the doors to a new Built a 24-hour Gym. It is in the second warehouse behind Marianas Visitor Authority office in San Jose.

The owners Derek Cutting and his wife, christened the building with an evening bash, punctuated with demonstrations of unique facilities and activities that are unique to the island.

Cutting grew up in a gym and has had a lifelong passion for bodybuilding, so he made that sport the focus of his facility. But he doesn’t want it to be a run of the mill, weight room.

Strength Wars Movie

“In running a gym nowadays we have functionality involved,” Cutting told Marinas Variety.

That’s why Latte Built has the kinds of equipment like the 25-foot rock wall climbing, a huge turf track which is more like a mini football field, a cross fit area, yoga studio, tire flips and tire slams and more others that helps one build not only physical strength and size, but also skill.

The member-base is mostly young male body builders who age range from 16 years old to 25 years old, but surprisingly, the facility has attracted an older local population, grateful for an environment that will help improve health.

From the beginning, Cutting’s plan was to create a traditional bodybuilding gym, then enhance it so that it could serve a wider client base and wider function. Now his vision has been realized and the island has a state of the art facility. The gym opens 24 hours a day and every member gets their own keys so they can come in anytime they want to work out, with ready helps from staffers. Latte Built group is not like a typical gym where you come as and treated as customer. It’s a like a family. And Cutting cultivates the family culture in his new facility.
