Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Expected To Plead Guilty On Tax Evasion Charges

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has fallen on some hard times.

Looks like reality TV star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino could be looking at some jail time. Both Mike and his brother Marc Sorrentino were hit with multiple charges including tax evasion. Sorrentino, 35, faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the charges, but it appears that he and his brother are choosing to go a different route.

It appears that both brothers have chosen to plead guilty in hopes of receiving a lesser sentence. While it’s unclear as to which charge the Sorrentino brothers are pleading guilty to, it’s likely that a plea agreement has been drafted up, meaning a less punishing sentence.

“According to the indictment, Michael and Marc Sorrentino filed false tax returns that incorrectly reported millions made from promotions and appearances,” said U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman. “The brothers allegedly also claimed costly clothes and cars as business expenses and funneled company money into personal accounts. The law is absolutely clear: telling the truth to the IRS is not optional.”

Additional charges were filed last year, an indictment that accused Mike Sorrentino of tax evasion and structuring funds to evade currency transaction reports. His brother Marc was charged with falsifying records.

Known as one of the co-stars of the wildly popular “Jersey Shore” reality series, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was able to make those television appearances count as he was able to generate millions of dollars in merchandising including a fitness program. The show that ran from 2009-2012 recently was set to return later this year, bringing back seven of the eight original cast members for a reunion series. We’ll have to wait and see if “The Situation” will be able to reprise his role as the resident bad boy of the crew later this year.

The plea hearing is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. in New Jersey.

The Sorrentino brothers had originally pleaded not guilty.
