Nate Diaz isn’t impressed.
In August of 2016, UFC Lightweight Nathan Diaz made his last appearance in the Octagon with an impressive five round war against Conor McGregor, which he narrowly lost. McGregor went on to seize the UFC Lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez and lose a boxing match to Floyd Mayweather, but Diaz has been on total hiatus ever since.
Several rumors of potential fights for him have been thrown around over the past year, most recently a Welterweight title fight with Champion Tyron Woodley, but none have come to fruition. Nate has never had the best relationship with the UFC brass, and now that he’s made comfortable sums from his two fights with McGregor, he is in a financial position to never fight again.
But the fact that there are rumors suggests that Diaz is in some kind of negotiation. He has long expressed dissatisfaction with how the UFC treats him, and recently Bellator President Scott Coker posted a suggestive picture of Diaz attending an event.
Now Diaz has made clear that he is out of negotiations with the UFC via Instagram.
One big problem for Diaz has been that although he got the star power rub from McGregor, his record is less than stellar. He has won 3 of his last 7 fights, which doesn’t exactly put him in line for a superfight.
One potential fight for Diaz would be Kevin Lee, who contested an Interim title with Tony Ferguson. Former champ Eddie Alvarez also responded to Diaz via social media.

Either opponent would be an excellent move for Diaz, and put him in title contention should he win. As usual though, the sticking point is probably money, and there is not telling what Diaz will demand or the UFC will offer, even with an ideal opponent.
