NYSAC Stops UFC 249: Khabib vs Tony Ferguson From Taking Place in New York

Is this fight just not meant to happen as planned?

If you were looking forward to watching the battle between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 you may want to hold your breath.

The New York State Athletic Commission has apparently stepped in and stated that UFC 249, which was to take place in Brooklyn, NY, will not go on as planned.

In a statement to the New York Times the NYSAC had this to say:

“Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recent guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and New York State, the New York State Athletic Commission informed the U.F.C. that U.F.C. 249 cannot be held in New York.”

Now while that may not mean that the event itself will be called off, the likelihood of the match being cancelled shouldn’t surprise anyone. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson were scheduled to fight four times before and this would just be another in a long line of cancellations.

Dana White recently said the bout would definitely happen on schedule. But with the state of the country and the world during this pandemic it truly is hard to make promises.

Both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are still hard at work in the gym preparing for war.

Both men truly dislike each other and we all love to see a good grudge match. Here’s hoping the fight takes place at some point.
