Paul Dillet: Freaky Size Like Ronnie Coleman?

Is Dillet A Mass Monster on Ronnie Coleman’s Level?

In the 90’s era of bodybuilding there was a major shift both in the judging and in the athlete’s physiques. Where the golden age of bodybuilding highlighted athletes with broad shoulders and a slim waist, much like that of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane, the 90’s saw a new kind of physique become the norm. The mass monster. It was all about how huge a competitor could get all the while maintaining definition and symmetry.

It’s a trend that has carried over even to this day. We want to see massively muscle forms hit the stage for their posing routines. Gone are the days of seeing men the likes of Frank Zane competing in the open weight division of bodybuilding. Instead the open weight division has been dominated by competitors upwards of 250 pounds. It’s a trend started by Dorian Yates and has continued all the way from The Shadow’s dominating run through to Ronnie Coleman’s impressive streak as the Olympia champion.

During that era there were many bodybuilders that were turning heads and making their presence known to the world through their gigantic size and freaky genetics. It’s hard to remember each and everyone that graced the Olympia stage during that time. When you’re competing against the likes of Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, and Dorian Yates, it’s no surprise that people have forgotten the other great bodybuilders of the era.

One who comes to mind is Paul Dillet. The French Canadian was a bodybuilder that was just as impressive as the competition and even had the same freaky size as Coleman. To say he was massive is huge understatement. Though he may not have been able to pull it all together like Coleman, Dillet had the kind of combination of height and size that made him one of the more memorable fixture in bodybuilding at the time.

Don’t believe he was all that impressive? Well check out his posing routine at the 1994 Olympia competition and try to doubt the man’s genetic gifts.
