Olympia Central 2017 Men's Open

2017 Olympia: Phil Heath Is More Afraid Of Himself Than The Top 5

Phil Heath has no worries.

As we draw nearer to the 2017 Olympia, the preparation for for the event should be all but complete for the competitors. The final days of the cut can truly tax the body, but it’s necessary in order to show off every sinew of muscle that these competitors have built up during the off season. Picking uo his sixth Olympia win at the 2016 Olympia, Phil Heath is proving to be an unstoppable force heading into the the 2017 show. Despite that fact, the other competitors in the Open Weight division are still a threat. But that’s not what Phil Heath thinks.

In a recent interview with Flex Magazine, Phil Heath explains that he has nothing to fear from the top five in his division.

FLEX: NONE OF LAST YEAR’S MR. O TOP FIVE HAS COMPETED IN 2017. WORRIED ABOUT SURPRISES?

PHILE HEATH: No.

From the sounds of things, the Olympia champion is still his confidence self. But this sound quite like the same Phil Heath who is confident in his abilities, but rather a man who is completely settled into his title reign. Heath truly believes he has no challenges heading into the Olympia. That can be a truly helpful element that boosts his game, but could also be seen as an oversight.

“They’re all incredible competitors with  incredible physiques. They get credit for that—but I also take some credit for that myself, because I’m the reason they’re pushing themselves to the limits of what they can do. No one can look me in the eye and say I’ve maxed out. Getting past me isn’t going to be easy for anyone. I’ve taken their best before, and they don’t know what they’re going to be facing from me in September. Going up against me, nothing less is going to count.”

Phil Heath certainly should be filled with confidence heading into the show, but he can’t allow himself to slip up for even a second or he could find himself getting shocked.

Do you think the top five don’t stand a chance against Phil Heath?
