President of BABFF Resigns Under Anti-Doping Charges

Doping scandal rocks BABFF.

Manasseh King, President of the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (BABFF), has resigned over doping-related charges. He was originally slated to face charges under ruling of the National Anti-doping Commission, but instead has left office after nine months of tenure.

New BABFF head Dr Alfred Sparman confirmed King’s resignation to the WEEKEND NATION:

“From the time I met him he always had a great passion for the sport and only wanted the best for our bodybuilders who he saw great things in.

“It’s sad to see him go because he had great vision for bodybuilding and was getting ready to do big things in the sport. But our executive will be taking in a new and bold direction and you can expect to see and hear big things coming very soon.”

Manasseh King’s first conflict with NADC came in early July when he allegedly showed resistance to a pair of doping control officers who arrived to perform testing at the St Michael Classic competition. King was also provisionally suspended by NADC for a walkout he staged between 16 gyms of a meeting lead by former President Dr Andrew Forde. After Forde was re-elected president, King protested the election and filed a court injunction against it. However, Justice Pamela Beckles denied the injunction. However, King eventually regained control in March after Forde declined to seek reelection. After nine months, he has resigned rather than face the charges leveled against him.

It seems like what the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation needs most is consistent leadership. Perhaps they will find it under their new President. He doesn’t exactly seem opposed to his predecessors behavior, but is undoubtedly excited about the year of growth and competition to come in 2018:

“We have some very big plans for 2018 that is going to make Manasseh proud and we’re going to hold a press conference in the New Year to announce all of them,” he remarked.
