Regina Jonga is On The Warpath Towards The IFBB

Regina Jonga is on a mission.

Regina Jonga is a bouncer at Pablo’z VIP in Zimbabwe, and has become an iconic figure in the regional bodybuilding community – one look at her physique shows you why.

She has dominated competitions like the Arnold Classic Africa, H&H Classic, IFBB South African National Championships and Gentle Giant Classic, and has a truly inspiring life story.

Jonga emigrated to South Africa in 2014 and took up domestic work. Of course, she had been interested in fitness her whole life, and with an abundance of natural talent, she did her best to stay in shape, mostly working out in improvised backyard gyms.

But South Africa afforded Regina the opportunity to join a proper gym, and soon she realized that she could leverage her physique into a better job as a bouncer.

Despite her expectations, club managers actually jumped at the prospect of hiring a female bouncer like Regina – her physique was a point of interests for nightclubs which are always competing for attention. She told Zimbabwe Daily,

“I don’t think there are many female bouncers out there and I know that people are fascinated when they see one, which could lead to awkward scenarios but I have never encountered any problems.”

During this time, Regina was also beginning to make the rounds on local bodybuilding competitions, and finding good success.

Then, she said, fate threw her another twist:

“I came home during the festive holiday and was supposed to go back to South Africa on the fifth (of January) but unfortunately I lost my passport on the way and only realised it at the border so I had to come back.”

Fortunately, with her newfound experience, size, and success, she had little trouble finding a new job.

“A friend of mine, Joseph, who works at Pablo’z and knows that I have been working as a bouncer in SA, asked if I wanted to come and work there while I waited for my passport. I only worked one weekend at Pablo’z but the money that I was paid was far much better than what I was getting in SA.”

Regina is yet unable to compete full time, as she has not yet earned an IFBB pro card. However, she has set he sights on obtaining one in the next few years and is sure to be an international force.
