Relax, Floyd Mayweather Definitely Isn’t Going to Sign With the UFC. Probably. Maybe.

Floyd Mayweather making his way to the UFC…Seriously?

If you’re at all plugged into the daily goings on of MMA, you’ve likely heard the rumors floating around that Floyd Mayweather might be in discussions to You might have heard it from none other than UFC President Dana White, who told the following to ESPN on Wednesday:

“We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media, and then that sh*t ends up happening.”

“We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f*cking happened. Anything is possible.”

Now to be fair, the fact that McGregor vs. Mayweather somehow managed to stumble itself ass backwards into existence does add a sliver of credence to White’s statement. But you guys, trust me you guys, there isn’t a chance in Hell that Floyd Mayweather is honesty considering a fight in the UFC. Not one. Here is a short list of reasons why:

  • Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old
  • Floyd Mayweather has fought 50 times as a professional boxer dating back to 1996
  • Floyd Mayweather has zero previous MMA experience. Zero.
  • Floyd Mayweather is retired
  • Even if Floyd Mayweather were to come out of retirement again, it damn well wouldn’t be for a fight in a sport of which he has zero experience.
  • Floyd Mayweather made 300 million dollars for his fight against Conor McGregor.

That last statistic is surely the most damning, as it accounts for more money than the 50 highest paid fighters in UFC History have made in their entire careers combined. COMBINED, you guys. And Floyd made that in one fight. 300. Million. Dollars.

And look, I know that Floyd recently talked about the UFC offering him a contract that would make him “a billion dollars.” I know this. But if you think the UFC is in any position to start handing out billion dollar contracts willy nilly, I know a woman who really does make $7230 a day working from home, CLICK HERE! I’m not certain, but I’m totally certain that you could compare the percentage that the UFC took from McGregor’s $100 million paycheck for the Mayweather fight with what it paid its entire roster in 2017 and the roster would come up on the losing side. So what, Mayweather’s going to risk a perfect fighting record *and* his health to maybe torch some handpicked opponent for less money than he pays each week to his garden gnome cleaners, which is a job that I assume all mega rich people need to hire out for? Pleeeeeassse.

In fact, as some, braver writers than I have suggested, this whole thing might simply be ploy on the UFC’s part to entice the kind of broadcasting partners that the promotion has been struggling to reel in during its current ratings spiral.

So yes, rest assured that there is now way on God’s green earth that Floyd Mayweather is even close to signing with the UFC. Unless he does. In which case, count me in with John Kavanagh.
