AFTER FIRST BIG WIN, CAN HUNTER LIVE UP TO LEE LABRADA’S LEGACY?

You’ve heard it before: bodybuilding is all about genetics. That may be a blanket statement, but it isn’t entirely farfetched. Of course diet and exercise are the obvious driving forces behind making quality gains, particularly when first getting started down the road of muscle building, but when it comes to actual competition you need something else in your back pocket to make things come together. The idea that you can simply work hard, eat right, and become a bodybuilding champion is certainly a great notion. However, for many people that is simply a fantasy. But there are those that are genetically gifted as well as work hard in the gym.

Lee Labrada is a classic example. The old school bodybuilder gained notoriety in the 80’s when he was competing against men the likes of Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari. Labrada was certainly one of the best bodybuilders of his era with a classic physique and great posing. Ever since his debut at the Night of Champions back in 1986, Labrada was constantly in the top five of the world and was always a major threat to that Olympia title.

Now it seems that Lee Labarada has passed on his genetic gifts and posing skills to his son Hunter. Recently Hunter competed in his first bodybuilding show, taking first place in the process. The younger Labrada appears to have a ton of upside and could perhaps be a top tier bodybuilder himself if he decides to continue to compete. Though he won the open bodybuilding competition at the Branch Warren Classic, perhaps we could be seeing him in a IFBB sanctioned Classic Physique competition some day. Until then check out the Instagram posting below of Hunter Labrada continuing his father’s legacy on the bodybuilding stage.

Little clip from prejudging this morning courtesy of @coach_chuck.d! Felt so good to finally get up on stage, looking forward to seeing where the chips fall at finals tonight! #branchwarrenclassic2016 #teamlabrada
