“I’m second day in and I’m achey from head to toe already. I feel like I’ve never trained before. I’m in absolute bits, not gonna lie.”
Terry has been a consistent competitor in Men’s Physique over the course of his career. He made waves by finishing as the runner-up in the 2016 Olympia. After winning the New York Pro in 2023, Terry took the Olympia stage and won his first of two straight titles. Now, he is preparing to defend his title once again at the end of the year.
Ryan Terry’s Morning Recovery Routine
Terry’s morning routine begins around 5am and consists of three major components to make sure his body is recovering right:
- Stretches with Bands
- Compression Therapy
- Ice Bath
- Infrared Sauna

Stretches with Bands
Ryan Terry begins this routine by hitting different stretches with bands. He shared that he is four weeks out of having stem cell treatment in his shoulders. When using the band, it is important to focus on mobility.
“I’ve had stem cell in my shoulders so this type of exercise, with the band, is just trying to get blood flow and mobility right.”
Terry also stretches out his lower body with different types of movements. This hits all areas of the lower body including quads, hamstrings, and hips.
“We’re trying to stretch the quad and open the hip up. I’ve got problems with this right hip. I’ve had three operations in it, not a lot of cartilage left on the inside so any internal rotation is where it hurts.”
Compression Therapy
After stretching, Terry puts on specialized boots that will inflate on his legs for compression therapy. This is a method that focuses on lymphatic drainage and is especially important following leg days.
“This is to help with lymphatic drainage and repair of the legs after a leg session. Legs takes a long time to recover. It’s the largest muscle part in the body.”
Ice Bath
After this, Terry jumps into the ice bath but stays in for just one minute. He explained that others will stay in longer but he feels he gets the same results with a shorter amount of time.
“For me, I just only do one minute and I can do it comfortably. I just feel like that’s all that I need. It’s just having a routine, having that consistency, and making yourself accountable. If I go in for two minutes, three minutes, I get the same benefits as if I go for one minute.”
Infrared Sauna
The day ends with a minimum of 20 minutes in the sauna. Ryan Terry shares that this is a one-hour routine that typically goes from 5-6am. During prep, he will still do some of this while also incorporating his cardio.
“I have a minimum of 20 minutes. By doing this, it gives me a full hour in the morning. As I go into my prep, I’m going to make sure I still incorporate this while adding in my cardio.”
