Sam Sulek Talks Rest Days: “I Was Lifting Straight Through”

On his drive home from the gym, Sam Sulek talked how he initially got into fitness. It began at a young age, just being apart of other sports. This allowed him to build up endurance for when he began weightlifting.

“I never really took rest days growing up, ever. Apart from when they were necessary, if we were like traveling or something or if I had a diving meet, I’d wait until after that to workout.”

Sulek explained how new gym goers might not have the stimulus built up if you are not used to working out everyday. When he began hitting the gym, Sulek was already built up from athletics.

“I was lifting straight through the whole time. I think I may be a little pre-trained before I started working out. Before I started actually lifting weights, starting this whole bodybuilding pursuit, I was already pretty athletic as a kid.”

Doing a couple hour diving practices. What I think really did it for me, I used to do gymnastics. Pretty f*cking high-activity level for three hours, six days a week. I think I set myself up for success inadvertently.”

There are many fitness experts out there that will advise you to take days off from the gym to allow your body rest. Sam Sulek does not feel the need to do so. Either way, it is up to you to decide what works best for you in terms of progression in the gym.
