Steve Cook details how he navigates posting about his relationships as a massive fitness influencer.

Social media dominates our social lives. Even if you don’t have a massive following of 1 million+ fans on your Instagram, odds are you or someone you know are a social media influencer. Especially in the bodybuilding and fitness world – amassing a following is a major way to find success in this industry. But what happens when your personal life and your social media life start to clash? In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Steve Cook breaks down the do’s and don’ts about dating when you’re a fitness influencer.

Currently, Steve Cook has 2.6 million Instagram followers. That’s a lot of eyeballs that fall on every single post he makes. Certainly some are brand content and promotional posts – but many are also personal. That’s the power of social media, it connects us in what feels like a more intimate and personal level with larger than life celebrities.

This extends beyond the top fitness influencers like Steve Cook. In the bodybuilding and fitness industry, there are various levels of athletes, enthusiasts, and aspiring experts that use social media to build a brand and become an influencer. Odds are, if you are passionate about bodybuilding, you know multiple people with decent followings. That means their personal lives are now in many ways made public. This can become tricky when romantic relationships enter the picture.

Dating and serious romantic relationships can be one of the most intimate, and for some people, private things in their lives. So what happens when your private life, including relationships, start to become embedded with your social media persona? During our interview with Steve Cook, we asked him his past experience dating women and how he manages to find a perfect balance in how he posts about it socially.

Posting about personal relationships can be a very delicate line to tread. Steve Cook shares some stories about what he’s learned throughout the years posting to his massive following. He also discusses some “rules” that he lives by to make sure that he keeps a connection with his fans on social media – without ruining personal and private things like his dating life.

In this segment we also expand out into other topics about the do’s and don’ts of social media. Including how to deal with hateful comments, anxieties of meeting the demands of your fans, and whether or not to engage directly when insulted publicly via social media.

You can watch Steve Cook’s full comments in our latest GI Exclusive interview segment above!
