Bill Kazmaier is suffering from a life-threatening heart condition.
Strongman legend Bill Kazmaier has been hospitalized with a life-threatening heart condition in the Philippines.
Kazmaier, who is known for being one of the first World’s Strongest Man champions, underwent an angioplasty to open blocked arteries and restores blood flow to the heart. The news that he was being sent to the hospital was shared last week on his official Instagram page.
On Tuesday, another update was given following the successful procedure.
“I’m thrilled to share that my father successfully underwent angioplasty, which was made possible and paid for by the funds raised so far. The procedure went well, and he’s now on track for the next critical phase, receiving an ICD with pacemaker functionality.”
Bill Kazmaier Hospitalized With Heart Condition
Bill Kazmaier was the third winner all-time of the World’s Strongest Man competition. This is a title he held three consecutive years from 1980-1982, becoming the first athlete to accomplish this feat. Kazmaier is also a two-time winner of the IPF World Championships.
At 71 years old, Kazmaier has accomplished great things in fitness and weightlifting over the course of his life. He is part of the International Sports Hall of Fame thanks to his incredible gifts in and out of competition.
The next step for Kazmaier is to have a pacemaker put in. With these devices, his heart rhythm will be regulated while providing emergency support should it go off into a dangerous rhythm. Last week, a GoFundMe page was created to help pay for the operations. There has been currently over $52,000 donated to help the Strongman legend.
“Please know that every donation – no matter the size – helps my father get one step closer to a healthier future. Your kindness has already changed our lives and I’m deeply grateful for your continued support.”
