Tavi Castro details how marijuana and his experience using psychedelics opened his mind and helped keep anxiety and depression at bay.

In our previous interview last week with Tavi Castro, he opened up about his mental health and battle with depression. In that interview segment he detailed how training in the gym was a form of meditation for overcoming depression and anxiety. But that’s not all to the story. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Tavi Castro details how he sought out psychiatric help and eventually discovered how marijuana and psychedelics further helped his mental health.

Depression and anxiety are aspects of mental health that need to be taken very seriously. But the truth is there is no one solution to help individuals overcome these mood disorders. Sometimes a therapist and coping techniques are enough to stabilize a person’s mental health. Other times medication can be a powerful solution as well.

In our conversation with Tavi Castro, his journey towards improving his mental heath took many forms. He previously stated that bodybuilding, meditation, and DJing were huge factors in helping him overcome depression and anxiety. But his journey didn’t stop there. He also eventually sought out medical help through psychiatrist. While this helped, Tavi continued to search for a better solution. Ultimately, he discovered that marijuana was a powerful tool.

Again, solutions differ for each individual. For some marijuana actually increases anxiety. But for Tavi, it helped keep him present. This eventually led him to discover magic mushrooms – a drug that changed his entire outlook on life.

As Tavi Castro describes it, psychedelics like mushrooms bring the mind closer to “ego death.” This is the moment when a person has a complete loss of subjective self identity. Tavi Castro was no longer “Tavi Castro.” He was just a human being. The past, present, and future as we know it have no meaning. Other people’s perception of you have no meaning. Your own perception of yourself loses meaning. Instead you are just in the eternal now.

This all sounds pretty heavy and crazy. It’s not for everyone. But for Tavi it changed his world view. Coming closers to ego death and being in that moment made him learn how to stay present. This combined with the meditation of training and DJing allowed Tavi to stop worrying about his past failures and fear future stresses. He can be happy in the now while also striving to achieve goals in the future.

Ultimately, mental health is something to take very seriously. Tavi’s statements aren’t endorsing all to use psychedelics as the sure-fire solution to battle depression and anxiety. But for those who have perhaps tried therapy and psychiatric medication – this might be an eye opening tool to help people who are still suffering. More and more studies are being released throughout the years of the potential value of psychedelics as treatment to mental health disorders.
