Temur Samkharadze Sets Five Records In Total During 2024 EPF European Championships

Temur Samkharadze set a new record during each lift at the event!

Temur Samkharadze is one of the rising stars in powerlifting. He has worked his way up in the +120kg weight class and now has multiple records and victories under his belt. Over the weekend, Samkharadze set a total of five records, both IPF Junior and EPF European, during the EPF European Championships.

The competition took place from March 12-17 in Velika Gorica, Croatia. Samkharadze put on a show from the beginning of the event in all three lifts on his way to a championship.

Temur Samkharadze Championship & Record-Setting Performance

Temur Samkharadze came into the event holding the EPF European squat record of 410kg (903.9lbs). He set this at the 2023 competition and was determined to take it even higher.

On Samkharadze’s second attempt, he was able to move 415kg (914.9lbs) and set a new record. He attempted 430kg (948lbs) on his third and final attempt but was not successful. The attempt shows that this could be his next goal moving forward.

On bench press, Samkharadze loaded up 247.5kg (545.6lbs) and moved it with ease. This set a new EPF European Junior record. Not only did he set a new record, Samkharadze surpassed his competition PR by 10kg.

This lift came on his final attempt. Samkharadze was successful on all three bench press attempts, beginning with 230kg (507lbs) and 240kg (529lbs).

Finally, after putting on a show in two lifts, Temur Samkharadze was prepared to do the same in deadlift. He was successful on his first two attempts once again and loaded 401kg (884lbs) on the bar in hopes of setting two new records. Samkharadze was able to move the weight and set a new IPF Junior world record and EPF European Open and Junior records.

In total, Samkharadze logged 1,063.5kg (2,344.6lbs). This was also IPF Junior world record and EPF European Open and Junior records.

Temur Samkharadze has competed in 10 sanctioned shows with eight victories. He continues to improve each time he takes the stage, culminating with this record-setting performance. With some of his attempts, Samkharadze cold have his sights set on even bigger numbers moving forward.
