Delusions of grandeur
Oh chuck. Former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell went on the AXS TV show this past friday with hosts Bas Rutten and Mauro Ranallo and spoke on the social media beef he’d been having with also former lightweight champ Jon Jones. Chuck joked that if Jones kept running his mouth they might have to settle it at UFC’s New York debut and Madison Square Garden later on this year. “If he keeps lipping off, maybe,” Liddell told Ranallo. “It’s funny: Somebody asked me a question, ‘Would you beat him in your prime?’ Shoot, of course I’d beat him in my prime. What am I supposed to say? In my prime? I’ll beat you right now. We’ve got a problem? Let’s go. I mean (expletive) … it’s one of those things, I’m not going to get mad at him if says he can beat me in my prime. He should say that. If I’m your coach, you better say that.” https://youtu.be/qN2sZ2jJU4U The beef all started in February when Chuck Liddell commented that he felt he could knockout Jon Jones in his prime. Jon Jones promptly responded saying “he should’ve fought smarter and saved his chin.” Personally, I think Chuck has delusions of grandeur as Jon Jones has fought plenty of knockout fighters (Glover Teixeira, Rampage Jackson, and Rashad Evans) and made them all look crazy. This big man’s got a chin and unlike Chuck many other weapons at his disposal. At this point Chuck is like that old guy screaming from the porch, his thinks he can kick your ass but his body says no. But who knows, maybe he’ll come out of retirement to see if he’s still got it. What do you guys think of Chuck Liddell’s recent comments? Is his style a legit threat to Jon Jones or is this just residue from when he was top dog? Hit us up in the comments below.
