THIS IS THE ONLY WAY OSP CAN BEAT JON JONES AT UFC 197

Ovince

It’s a long shot, but OSP may have a chance against the former Light Heavyweight Champion.

Usually I got pissed when the injury bug ruins a compelling main event. Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier was a rematch that many were anticipating based on the history and the trash talk alone. But In many pundits minds, me included, Daniel Cormier was likely facing his second loss against Jon Jones on April 23. Now that the leg injury has sidelined the UFC Light Heavyweight champion, a new and somewhat more interesting match up has formed to take it’s place. Ovince St. Preux, OSP for short, is a contender that has a great deal of upside. While he may not have every tool in the shed to make him a major threat to Jones, OSP does have that element of the unknown in his favor which gives this match up some life. OSP is a naturally powerful striker who can devastate anyone foolish to stand right in front of him. The problem with St. Preux’s striking however lies in the fact that he can get a bit wild at times in exchanges. That wildness won’t do him any favors when he comes face to face with a fighter the caliber of Jon Jones. Or will it? Many believe that wild striking can be disadvantageous, but nothing can be exactly certain in a fight. What makes OSP dangerous is that his striking being so unpredictable could end getting Jones into all sorts of trouble. Jones is a man who likes to meet fighters in their own realm and though he’ll shoot for a takedown if needed, his hubris does seem to take over from time to time. That only makes things much more risky for the former Light Heavyweight champion. OSP may not be everyone’s idea of a legitamate challenge to Jon Jones, but the fact that the number 6 Light Heavyweight contender has some unpredictable abilities could make this match up an intriguing one to watch.
