THIS IS WHAT CONOR MCGREGOR NEEDS TO BEAT FLOYD MAYWEATHER

mcgregor vs mayweather headerRealistically, how does McGregor match up against Mayweather?

The more this conversation continues the more you have to wonder just how real the prospect is of seeing Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather lock horns. McGregor has been saying for years how he’d crush Mayweather and it seems that the sentiment hasn’t been lost on the retired boxing champion. Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time, while McGregor is the UFC Featherweight champion. A match up between the two would certainly be a pay-per-view delight. The problem is will the UFC allow the fight to take place? Really, that’s a question for another article. What I’m more interested in is what the hell Conor McGregor has to do in order to beat Floyd Mayweather. There should be no argument as to who the better boxer would be in this match up. While McGregor has a great deal of experience boxing, it pales in comparison to Mayweather’s extensive knowledge of the fighting style. McGregor lacks a stiff jab in his stand up striking relying heavily on his straight lefts to do a great deal of the work as far as his punching goes. Mayweather doesn’t necessarily use his jab much either, but it’s a key tool to have in your arsenal if you’re going to hope to beat a man of Mayweather’s caliber in a boxing affair. The real unfortunate thing about this match up is that if McGregor isn’t allowed to use his entire arsenal we won’t learn much about who the better fighter is. Boxing and fighting are two different things. Throw some kicks to the legs, a clinch with knees, and some takedowns into the mix and Mayweather would find himself in a world of trouble with McGregor, which is the real sad part about this scenario. Boxing is essentially a gentleman’s agreement not to use all the tools available to you in a fight. This essentially destroys much of McGregor’s chances at winning a fight. So what’s the tool that Conor needs to defeat Floyd? A chance to fight the man in a mixed martial arts contest that’s what. I never count anyone out of a fight, but the unfortunate thing for McGregor is that he doesn’t bring anything new to the table that Mayweather hasn’t seen before in the boxing realm. That in itself is a major handicap for McGregor and would prove to be his undoing against a defensive master like Mayweather. “The Notorious” one has said it once before himself. Boxing isn’t the style to beat Floyd Mayweather. It’s a fact the McGregor should remember if he ever gets the contract to step into the ring against the greatest boxer of our generation.
