Bodybuilder Tom Platz shared that he is suffering from Bell’s palsy after being sick with a stomach virus.

Tom Platz recently shared a health update after many fans were commenting on how he was speaking in certain videos. The bodybuilding legend Platz, revealed that he is suffering from Bell’s palsy, which is impacting the nerves in one side of his face.

Platz became known in bodybuilding for his insane size and conditioning in his legs, that were crafted through his insane leg day workouts. His workouts were extremely intense and he continues to train to this day in retirement. Platz was unable to win a show but became known in bodybuilding for his legs and overall impressive physique. Despite never taking home a first place title, Platz gave it his all and many argue that he should have had better placings throughout his career than he did.

Platz began training at a young age and it was quite a journey to get to where he was. Tom Platz stated that he met Arnold Schwarzenegger, and told him that he would be moving out to Los Angeles to train at the infamous Gold’s Gym, amongst other bodybuilders, and he said that Arnold seemed to somewhat not believe him almost. Well, Platz eventually made it out to L.A. to train, after completing his degree in 1978.

Platz continues to train and admitted to overtraining recently. He contracted a stomach virus and it was difficult to recover from. Now, he is working to recover from Bell’s palsy.

Tom Platz Reveals New Health Update

Tom Platz shared that many were commenting on his posts wondering what was happening. Bell’s palsy is a condition that could be a reaction to a viral infection. It is where the muscles are weakened in one side of the face, causing it to droop.

“Many of you are asking ‘what’s wrong with Tom’s face?’ Why is he talking like Stallone? I got sick. I overtrained, okay. Even I can overtrain and I got a stomach virus and the nerves in my face, it’s getting much, much better and it will go away, but the nerves in my face were challenged and my mouth doesn’t open properly, as you can probably see.

I just wanted to tell you that’s what it is, okay. It’s Bell’s palsy they call it. The nerves in my face. Of course, Cha gave me the foods to eat. HE changed my diet around. I’m on the road to recovery and recovery is challenging. I don’t like to talk about it but everyone is like ‘what’s wrong with Tom?’ That’s what’s wrong with me.”
