UFC 229 Fallout: After Crazy Brawl, What’s Next For Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor?

UFC 229 ended in pure chaos.

So UFC 229 has come and gone, leaving with it quite the impression on the MMA community and fandom. Khabib Nurmagomedov got his revenge on Conor McGregor at what was billed as the biggest fight in UFC history. If people thought that was hyperbole before the match up, the aftermath of the main event certainly cemented why this fight was such a big deal.

Khabib Nurmagomedov may have won the fight, but his actions after the event has caused a major backlash. While he still holds he UFC Lightweight championship, there’s a good chance that Nurmagomedov could feel some pretty hefty repercussions.

This is how it went down… (Post-Fight Brawl part ½) – Edit: After what seemed like a brilliant victory for Khabib, he jumped over the Octagon and got involved in a fight with Conor McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach, Dillon Danis who is a Bellator welterweight – Via @chrisk843 – #ufc #ufc229 #holyshit #khabibnurmagomedov #khabibvsmcgregor #eagle

Tempers flared and though McGregor instigated these actions, Nurmagomedov losing control does nothing for his career. If he’s suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for an extended period of time, we could see the champion potentially striped of his title, something the no one, least of all Khabib Nurmagomedov, wants to see.

On the other hand, Conor McGregor has been forced to eat some humble pie and swallow his words. While mental warfare is always apart of his game plan, this time it appeared that McGregor bit off more than he could chew. That said, the brash Irishman acquitted himself well, particularly in the third round where it appeared that he was set to make a comeback. Unfortunately for McGregor, Nurmagomedov imposed his will and was ultimately able to submit the Irish superstar in the fourth round.

Now it’s back to the drawing board for McGregor who will be forced to pick up the pieces after this loss. But from the sounds of things it looks like McGregor is dead set on a rematch with his rival.

If Khabib Nurmagomedov does get tied up in legal troubles, it would behoove Conor McGregor to potentially take another match in the interim in order to stay sharp for a potentially rematch. While there’s no easy fights in the UFC, a match with Anthony Pettis or the loser of the Dustin Poirier vs Nate Diaz match would be a great fight for McGregor to stay active while he waits to see what happens with Nurmagomedov.

Who do you think Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor should fight next?
