WATCH: On The Road To The Arnold Classic 2018 Hafthor Bjornsson Pulls Over 900 Lbs!

Hafthor Bjornsson has made some insane strength gains.

Rogue is a brand that has been exploding onto the fitness scene recently. They do a great job of producing quality web content for fans of sports like strongman and Crossfit. They produced a great “Road To The Arnold” piece on their athlete Hafthor “The Mountain” Bjornsson. In it, he sets a personal record for a two-rep deadlift.

Hafthor says that he always liked to be strong. He lived a very active childhood, constantly running around lifting different objects. Like many young men of his height and frame, including fellow strongman Brian Shaw, he first found competitive love in basketball. Throughout life, Hafthor’s father was his greatest supporter.

The footage depicts Hafthor training movements like overhead tosses, (at which he greatly excels) and the frame carry, which, at this year’s Arnold classic will be performed without straps and thus tax grip to the extreme. Hafthor says he is quite pleased with this rule change, but his greatest anticipation is for the deadlift, he believes he can win the event cleanly in 2018.

Strength Wars Movie

“Last year, I pulled 420 kilograms, two weeks out from the Arnold for two reps. That was my heaviest deadlift for how we strong guys do it. Now, I’m 5-weeks out from the Arnold Classic and I’m pulling 440 kilograms for two reps, so I’m a lot stronger now than I was last year coming into the Arnold Classic.”

There will also be a stone lift in the 2018 competition, so Hafthor went hunting for a stone with his father, and found a solid supply of candidates. Hafthor also spoke about his endeavors outside of strongman, including his new brand of Vodka spirits, which has spread over Europe.

Hafthor is yet not a favorite to win this year’s Arnold Strongman classic, but he is still very young and camera friendly. With proper performances and growth in the the sport, he will continue to rise through years to come.
