WHAT’S NEXT FOR NEW WOMEN’S BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMP MIESHA TATE

Miesha Tate’s fight saturday night could’ve came straight out of a Disney movie. It had all the ups and downs of a full length drama. The set up, the false up at the end of the second round, the “all is lost” at the end of the 4th, and finally the out of nowhere victory in the 5th. Wow…WHAT…A…FIGHT!!! In case your missed (in my opinion) the most dramatic card in UFC history, Conor “Notorious” McGregor lost to Nate Diaz via quick tap to a rear naked choke and Miesha “Cupcake” Tate finished former champ Holly Holm with the same move. Going into the 4th Miesha was down on the scorecards and needed either a finish or a 10-8 round to take the strap, or as she put it “risk it for the bis-cuit”. Holly came out in the 5th landing more strikes and keeping the distance which left a frustrated Miesha Tate essentially a deer in headlights, until… Miesha tate vs holly In the 5th round, with 2 minutes to go, Holly Holm threw a lazy right in which Miesha Tate ducked under and took her to the ground – the beginning of the end. Miesha took the former champions back, got the double hooks, and sunk in a rear naked choke. Though Holly Holm took her for a ride in a last ditch effort, it only sunk the choke in deeper, and Holly Holm eventually ended up passing out in Miesha’s arms – Miesha “Cupcake” Tate was now the UFC bantamweight champion of the world! Tate Holm afterwards But the world in general, and especially the MMA world moves fast. Before Miesha Tate could take a swig of  her first budweiser people were already buzzing about what’s next. The most obvious match up is to complete the trilogy with Ronda Rousey, let’s just call a spade a spade here. Ronda Rousey’s intimate relationship with Dana White pretty much puts him on speed dial anytime she wants a fight or just simply vent about her day. Dana said after the fight that Ronda didn’t watch the bout but when he relayed to her that Miesha Tate had won she said “I’m going to start training right now”, so let’s face it – unless Ronda doesn’t want the fight, Miesha WILL be on the shelf until October, November, when Rousey is expected to return. Tate vs rousey 2 But let’s humor ourselves here and pretend there’s actually another option. The next option up is obviously Holly Holm. She’s the former champ who essentially was on her way to a unanimous decision win over Miesha Tate if she didn’t get caught in the 5th round. Probably the most superior athlete in the women’s division and mentally tough – Holly Holm will be ready for any challenge as she has the best masterminds in the business “Jackson-winkeljohn” camp behind her. With both fighter sustaining minor injuries saturday this bout could be set again as soon as UFC 200. Holly Holm already alluding to the fact she’s ready for the rematch in the post fight presser “I would fight Miesha tomorrow” – true warrior. Amanda Nunes The next fight up would be Amanda Nunes. With a hard fought decision win over a tough Valentina Shevchenko, Amanda’s striking looked impressive in the beginning of the fight. A big strong fighter, with a 3 fight win streak, she would be a lot to handle for the current champ Miesha Tate. She has a 69 inch reach that she truly utilize to keep the distance and land counter strikes. A Muy Thai based fighter, it could definitely be an interesting match up. Not shy, she called out Miesha Tate during the post fight presser stating she thought it would be a good bout and asking Dana White to set the match up. All in all I’m just happy that Miesha finally won the belt as she faced the Charles Barkley syndrome of always being a bridesmaid. No matter who she faces next you can bet she’s going to be in a dogfight as she always is. For now let’s just enjoy the win and let her eat “cupcake.” What do you guys think? Was this just a fluke? Will Ronda Rousey or Holly Holm be victorious again? Let us know in the comments section below. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram below.
