Push recovery and muscle growth.

When it comes to building a massive physique the ultimate goal is always hypertrophy. For the most part, achieving hypertrophy during training is done by pushing your muscles to their limit ultimately ending in a pump. It’s definitely a great method to get to your goal of swole, but it isn’t the only way you can achieve hypertrophy. No, it’s not some fancy new method that’s never been heard of before, nor is it some fantasy pill like a senzo bean that will get you ripped in no time. Stretching.

Yeah, that thing that people do in yoga class that many bodybuilders either neglect or scoff at. Hard work and dedication simply can’t be substituted in the gym. Train hard, eat right and eventually you’re going to get some results. But stretching is a tool that can help both with recovery as well as promoting muscle growth. The real mystery is how and when you should be stretching to reap the benefits.

When you’re training in the gym it’s probably best to warm up your body before even considering stretching. If your muscles are cold and you perform a stretch, chances are that you’ll likely to some serious damage, causing rips and potentially tears to the muscles and tendons. Warming up with a bit of cardio will do your muscles some good.

So does that mean you’re ready to stretch now that you’ve warmed up? Not exactly. Stretching during your weight training can be a tricky thing and can cause some damage to the muscle group being worked. If your muscles are sore during training then massaging them in between sets is probably your best bet to reduce soreness and pain.
