Meet The 16-Year-Old Following Social Media Trends With Heavy Steroid Use

Zaid Laila is using tren to build muscle despite negative side effects.

The age of social media has brought plenty of trends as information is shared from many different sources at a rapid rate. Some information can be helpful, while other information is shared without verified facts or sources. This could be dangerous — and even deadly.

In the fitness world, steroids have become a major topic as influencers work to build shredded physiques and share tips with others looking to improve. The problem with some of these trends is that they involve the use of drugs that have not been approved for humans and are not made for people.

Zaid Laila, a 16-year-old gym goer, sat down with CBS News for a conversation about his steroid use and is not concerned with side effects as long as it helps build muscle.

“Why wait 10 years when I could do it in less than a year.”

Laila has been sharing his fitness journey on social media from suburban Dallas where he attends high school. He quickly gained attention because of his physique transformation and has not hid how he got results, claiming it was “a lot of steroids and a lot of working out.”

Laila admitted to CBS about using steroids for 10 months and this includes Trenbolone.

Social Media Steroid Use Becoming Dangerous Trend

Steroids have been a big part of bodybuilding, among other professional sports, for decades now. With social media booming, it has spread into this avenue as well but it often comes with misinformation.

In 2023, the Center for Countering Digital Hate did a study on TikTok users promoting steroids. It found that there were upwards of 587 million times that hashtags on the social media platform did some sort of promoting of steroid-like drugs in the U.S. from 2020-23.

Laila is one of these users. He shared that he began using steroids because he was unhappy with his appearance.

“When I started taking the steroids, I got more jacked and better looking.”

Zaid Laila has continued his steroid use without the blessing of his parents and he is very aware of this. He claims that his dad is worried for his well-being but Laila plans to continue to use steroids — and he is not the only one.

“If I have a heart attack at 30, I have a heart attack.”
