Event Recap

The Shield Carry

The goal of the shield carry is to focus on distance. The athlete must carry the shield for the greatest distance possible. The additional challenge for this event is the shape of the shield itself – made purposefully to be harder for athletes to hold over long periods of time. The shield weighs 200kg (440.9 pounds).

The most exciting moment of this event was Tom Stoltman, who not only won the carry but also broke a new world record with a distance of 65.3 meters. Stoltman was followed by Pa O’Dwyer in second and Luke Stoltman in third.

Full score breakdown for the Shield Carry below:

  1. Tom Stoltman – 65.3 meters (11 points)
  2. Pa O’Dwyer – 62.15 meters (10 points)
  3. Luke Stoltman – 50.25 meters (9 points)
  4. Paul Smith – 45.8 meters (8 points)
  5. Desmond Gahan – 45.2 meters (7 points)
  6. Adam Bishop – 40 meters (6 points)
  7. Andy Black – 35 meters (5 points)

The Axle Deadlift

The goal of the Axle Deadlift is to complete as many reps as possible within a 60 second time limit. The total weight pulled was an intimidatingly heavy 360 kg (793.7 pounds) in addition to being completed with the axle bar – making the deadlift much more challenging.

Tom Stoltman showcased his prowess again – but was also challeneged by Adam Bishop. The two tied for first place earning 10.5 points each. Pa O’Dwyer followed in the third position.

Check out the score breakdown for the Axle Deadlift below:

  1. Tom Stoltman – 6 reps (10.5 points)
  2. Adam Bishop – 6 reps (10.5 points)
  3. Pa O’Dwyer – 4 reps (7.5 points)
  4. Andy Black – 4 reps (7.5 points)
  5. Mark Felix – 4 reps (7.5 points)
  6. Shane Flowers – 4 reps (7.5 points)

The Axle Press

The axle bar makes a return in the third event – but this time the Strongman athletes needed to commit to overhead axle pressing 155 kg (341.7 pounds). The aim is to do as many reps as possible within a 75 second time limit.

In what would be nearly the full pattern of the night, Tom Stoltman earned first place yet again with five reps and earning 11 points. Adam Bishop followed in second alongside Ryan England in third place. With only two other events left in the lineup – at this point it was clear that Tom Stoltman was the most dangerous competitor for the first place overall victory.

Check out the full score breakdown of the Axle Press below:

  1. Tom Stoltman – 5 reps (11 points)
  2. Adam Bishop – 4 reps (8 points)
  3. Ryan England – 4 reps (8 points)
  4. Pa O’Dwyer – 4 reps (8 points)
  5. Paul Smith – 4 reps (8 points)
  6. Mark Steele – 4 reps (8 points)
  7. Shane Flowers – 2 reps (5 points)

The Sandbag Toss

The main objective of this event was for the athletes to toss as many sandbags over the 15 foot bar within 60 seconds. There were six sandbags in total ranging from 16 kg to 28 kg (35.3 pounds to 61.7 pounds). In the event that multiple Strongman athletes complete all six tosses in the time limit – the fastest time takes the lead.

This was the only event that Tom Stoltman did not take first in. Instead, Shane Flowers rose above and made all six tosses in the fastest amount of time. Stoltman also completed all six tosses – but in a slower time landing him second place. Andy Black followed with six tosses as well but with a slower time placing him in third.

Check out the full score breakdown for the Sandbag Toss below:

  1. Shane Flowers – 6 in 18.38 seconds (11 points)
