Tom Stoltman wins the 2022 Britain’s Strongest Man taking four out of the five events.
The 2022 Britain’s Strongest Man was held this weekend on February 26th at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England. The event was the first of the year to bring together the most elite Strongman athletes from across Britain to battle across five events. Ultimately, Tom Stoltman won first palce at the 2022 Britain’s Strongest Man.
Tom Stoltman swept the competition and won four out of the five events. This is a repeat victory for Stoltman, who also won the 2021 Britain’s Strongest Man. This marks him as the first Scottish athlete to win two consecutive BSM titles in this century. Stoltman was followed by Pa O’Dwyer in second and Adam Bishop in third.

Event Recap
The Shield Carry
The goal of the shield carry is to focus on distance. The athlete must carry the shield for the greatest distance possible. The additional challenge for this event is the shape of the shield itself – made purposefully to be harder for athletes to hold over long periods of time. The shield weighs 200kg (440.9 pounds).
The most exciting moment of this event was Tom Stoltman, who not only won the carry but also broke a new world record with a distance of 65.3 meters. Stoltman was followed by Pa O’Dwyer in second and Luke Stoltman in third.

The Axle Deadlift
The goal of the Axle Deadlift is to complete as many reps as possible within a 60 second time limit. The total weight pulled was an intimidatingly heavy 360 kg (793.7 pounds) in addition to being completed with the axle bar – making the deadlift much more challenging.
Tom Stoltman showcased his prowess again – but was also challeneged by Adam Bishop. The two tied for first place earning 10.5 points each. Pa O’Dwyer followed in the third position.

The Axle Press
The axle bar makes a return in the third event – but this time the Strongman athletes needed to commit to overhead axle pressing 155 kg (341.7 pounds). The aim is to do as many reps as possible within a 75 second time limit.
In what would be nearly the full pattern of the night, Tom Stoltman earned first place yet again with five reps and earning 11 points. Adam Bishop followed in second alongside Ryan England in third place. With only two other events left in the lineup – at this point it was clear that Tom Stoltman was the most dangerous competitor for the first place overall victory.

The Sandbag Toss
The main objective of this event was for the athletes to toss as many sandbags over the 15 foot bar within 60 seconds. There were six sandbags in total ranging from 16 kg to 28 kg (35.3 pounds to 61.7 pounds). In the event that multiple Strongman athletes complete all six tosses in the time limit – the fastest time takes the lead.
This was the only event that Tom Stoltman did not take first in. Instead, Shane Flowers rose above and made all six tosses in the fastest amount of time. Stoltman also completed all six tosses – but in a slower time landing him second place. Andy Black followed with six tosses as well but with a slower time placing him in third.

The Atlas Stones
The Atlas Stones event is a fan favorite and perhaps one of the most iconic events in the sport of Strongman. The final event contained five atlas stones ranging from 120 kg – 200 kg (264.6 pounds to 440.9 pounds). Tom Stoltman finished off strong by placing first place and earning 11 points.
Shane Flowers followed the rear in second with an impressive run completing all five stones but nearly seven seconds slower than Stoltman. Andy Black followed with third place.

Tom Stoltman continues to prove that he is an unstoppable force in the world of Strongman. Not only was he the previous champion for the Britain’s Strongest Man – but he also currently holds the World’s Strongest Man title from 2021.
