Mitchell Hooper defends his title from 2023 at the Arnold Strongman Classic UK!

It has been an incredible two-year run for Mitchell Hooper and it continued over the weekend. The 2024 Arnold Strongman Classic UK took place over the weekend in Birmingham and Hooper was able to successfully defend his title from last year.

The two-day event consisted of five events. It was a loaded crew that featured Hafthor Bjornsson, Bobby Thompson, and rookie Lucas Hatton. In the end, Hooper earned another gold medal, just two weeks after he was victorious during the Arnold Strongman Classic.

Day One

Event One – Austrian Oak

The Austrian Oak event gave Strongmen the option of lifting a 195kg or 175kg log. There was a time cap of 90 seconds and competitors would have to lock out as many reps as possible. Of course, any rep with the heavier log would be worth more than those who lifted the lighter one.

  • First Place – Mitchell Hooper, 3 reps (195kg, 430lb)
  • Second Place – Lucas Hatton, 3 reps (195kg, 430lb)

Event Two – Farmer’s Carry

The Farmer’s Carry required athletes to lift a 181kg (400lb) item in each hand and walk it as far as possible. The person who moved the further was the winner. Hooper earned his second victory of the competition, just edging out Hafthor Bjornsson, with a distance of 29.2 meters.

  • First Place – Mitchell Hooper, 29.2 meters
  • Second Place – Hafthor Bjornsson, 28.6 meters
  • Third Place – Bobby Thompson, 27.1 meters

Lucas Hatton excelled in this event as a rookie. He was the only competitor to complete all four aspects of the medley. Hooper was second, having gone through the Yoke Carry and two out of three dumbbells.

  • First Place – Lucas Hatton, 4 in 131.81 seconds
